San Francisco is a very diverse city. You either love it or hate it, it seems like there is nothing in between.
The city where you need to be an expert to recognize differences between hipsters and homeless people. The city where you can enjoy benefits to have Napa and Sonoma Valleys as a neighbors as well as the most famous Culinary Institute that produces creatively thinking chefs whose craft you'll recognize in every restaurant in the city.
I think this is the only city where you see as many chefs jackets on the street as regular clothes.
In the morning you'll see two kind of people, the ones who run to work and another kind who don't run anywhere. The street is their home. I wish I could avoid this subject but I simply I can't unsee what I saw. The city can't allow to keep destroying itself within. The officials need to do something. A beautiful city shouldn't smell like urine. Even though they try to wash the streets with shampoo, the smell is overwhelming. It overpowers any good impression of the city and I don't think that “ewww” should be the first tourist’s sound. It should be the “wow” what the city truly deserves. Tourists shouldn't step on used syringes and avoid feces while walking on the street of this beautiful city. I really hope they would do something to help people and the city.
My cousin and I were coming from sizzling 106F Napa Valley through terrible fire on the both sides of the road to be charmed by San Francisco. The minute we stepped out of the car we thought that we may need to get our jackets out of the suitcases. The temperature outside was 64F. Drastic difference.
Being a New Yorkers and overhearing the opinions about us, we often disagree while we were in New York. The minute you set your foot for an adventure outside of NY everything is changes. The pace, the people reaction, attitude etc. Like it says that nothing works outside of NY. I'm not being overdramatic, absolutely not! But Seriously? became our common phrase. And since we're in San Francisco let's put our “Seriously?” to work. We arrived in the hotel around 7pm. We had driven from Lake Tahoe from 5am and made couple scheduled stops in Napa Valley, so you can say that we' were tired. At 7pm they said that our room was not ready yet. Seriously? Even if your check-in hour is 4 pm, by 7pm all of your booked for today rooms should be ready! As upset as we were, we did start hissing like snakes because it's totally unacceptable for the sophisticated hotel to treat their guests like that. Thanks to our host who recognized all those the “NY crazy” symptoms and offered us a dinner as courtesy of the hotel.
Next morning, after walking on the street and inhaling fresh smells of urine we decided not to concentrate on negative aspects but look for something that amazes us. We chose to be happy. We chose to see happy San Francisco.
As soon as we decided so, our perspective magically changed. It seemed like I started seeing everything in lines. I saw beautiful and unique architectural structures throughout the city.
Geometry and symmetry of Magical Lines of San Francisco with all curved, warped and straight lines charmed us instantly. I left my heart out there.
Until the next time San Francisco, until next time....
