When I started my curios way to learn how to create perfume, I didn’t know it would be so fascinating and interesting. It’s science but magical kind. More mysterious, more secretive, more illusive
I just love to find something new everyday!
I want to create perfume Sirin.
(Who wants to find out how Sirin became my logo and talisman, read here https://www.starkspictorial.com/blog/how-did-sirin-become-my-logo-and-talisman). She is a mythical creature from paradise. Bird with a face and torso of the beautiful woman. She symbolizes eternal happiness and joy. Only happy people could see her or hear her.
Perfumers strongly suggested to start with objectives! It makes you stay on the path on your ultimate goal.
Ok, let’s start than! First, I want to be able to create perfume that makes people happy. Instant splash of Sirin’s joy.
It should be an interesting fragrance, mythical, mystical, exotic, oriental. One of a kind.
I want this perfume smell like blossoming fern on Summer Solstice Night. You are probably wonder if fern has flowers? Nope, not in reality, it’s my yet another allegory and reference to the myth
According to the myth, this flower blooms for a very short time on the eve of the summer solstice (celebrated on June 21 or sometimes July 7) The flower brings fortune to the person who finds it. In various versions of the tale, the fern flower brings luck, wealth, or the ability to understand animal speech. However, the flower is closely guarded by evil spirits and anyone who finds the flower will have access to earthly riches, which have never benefited anyone, so the decision to pick the flower or leave it alone is left up to the individual.
Now I know that fern essential oil would be one of my first ingredient in enchanting forest concoction. What else is there? Trees covered with moss. Here come my woody notes to choose from or to blend: Oakmoss Essential Oil, Sandalwood (Indian Mysore Sandalwood, Agarwood also known as Oud, Cedarwood Oil. What else? Vetiver, of course! So, this is for enchanting surroundings.
Now a more complicated part to represent Sirin itself – I would use floral/fruity notes; however, it shouldn’t be overwhelming. It’s a bit complicated for me because some of the flowers I love, I don’t like in perfume. Iris, orchids, honeysuckle, white ginger… if I do choose those, I should be very careful with that.
One flower I absolutely sure about is Her Majesty the Rose. The one I adore the most from very early age – Bulgarian Rose 🌹.
That’s all for now and I will continue to learn some interesting facts about Alchemologie, which means the alchemy of transforming raw materials into perfumes. Did you know that word before? If not, congratulations 🎉, now you learn something new too!
